Kendra Benisano is a self-taught painter based in Oakland, California, whose work centers on expressive portraiture and the emotional charge of the human face. Working primarily in oil, she uses unexpected color, loose brushwork, and shifts between observation and distortion to explore presence, intimacy, and the ways people reveal themselves through gesture and expression. Her portraits are less concerned with polished likeness than with capturing the particular feeling of a person in a moment.
